What Is the Squadron 2.0?

The Squadron 2.0 is a completely redesigned 3-inch compact auxiliary LED light pod, built from the inside out with a modern design and next-generation optics. The goal was increased output with refined beam patterns that deliver greater distance and wider pattern width while minimizing wasted light spill. 

Why the Light Is Actually Better — Not Just Brighter

Raw lumens can be misleading. Performance is validated through Baja Designs' Effective Lighting Score (ELS), a four-part evaluation measuring real-world light quality beyond raw lumens and distance claims. The Squadron 2.0 scores higher across the board than its predecessor, delivering a smoother, more even beam that reduces eye strain and driver fatigue on long night runs.

Optics & Housing
The new gloss-black aluminum housing delivers a bold, aggressive look. Next-generation optics create a refined beam pattern that throws light farther and wider while minimizing wasted spill, giving you more usable illumination exactly where you need it. The Sport specifically uses Hex Beam optics. 

9-Color Selectable Backlight
The Squadron 2.0 features an all-new integrated 9-color selectable backlight — an industry-leading feature in a 3-inch light package. Drivers can toggle between red, green, blue, magenta, cyan, amber, yellow, pink, and white, all configurable through the included harness. Color settings are retained when the light is powered off, so your setup is always ready when you are. The Baja Designs Squadron 2.0 Sport pair is the next evolution of our most trusted compact LED light pod. Completely redesigned from the inside out, the Squadron 2.0 Sport features a modern exterior, next‑generation optics, and a powerful 3,200‑lumen output at 30W—delivering a 35% increase in performance over the previous generation with improved beam control and efficiency. Precision‑engineered optics create a refined beam pattern that throws light farther and wider while minimizing wasted spill, giving you more usable illumination exactly where you need it.

The Core Reason You Need a Harness

Squadron 2.0 Sport and Pro lights need a switched, fused power source with appropriately sized wire. You cannot just wire aux lights directly to the battery or tap a random circuit — that risks overloading wiring, blowing fuses, or worse. Off-road LED lights draw consistent current and demand clean, protected power delivery. Generic harnesses often use undersized wire, unsealed connectors, or undersized relays that fail under load or in weather. 

What's Actually Included in the Baja Designs Harness

Every harness includes the relay, fuse, switch, and weatherproof connectors needed to wire your off-road lighting setup cleanly and reliably. The harness is built with high-temperature insulation, sealed Deutsch-style connectors, and an inline relay with blade fuse. 

Critically for the Squadron 2.0 specifically, the included universal harness features a three-position switch that controls the main light, the backlight, and off. This is important — the 9-color selectable backlight requires that third circuit to function. Without a 2.0-compatible harness, you lose the backlight functionality entirely.

Harness vs. No Harness — Which Situation Is Which

Get the harness if:
You don't already have aux light wiring on your vehicle. This is the clean, complete, plug-and-play solution. Plug-and-play — sealed connectors mate directly with Squadron 2.0 Sport and Pro lights with no splicing, soldering, or guesswork. 

Skip the harness if:
You already have an existing power management system such as a sPOD, Switch Pros, or factory upfitter switches, and you're integrating the lights into that system. In that case, Baja Designs offers a separate Upfitter/Auxiliary harness designed to connect Baja Designs auxiliary lights directly to a vehicle's factory upfitter/auxiliary switches or aftermarket power management systems such as sPOD.
