Your rear suspension dominates the stability of your truck, and if you’ve spent enough time in the dirt with your Gen 1 Raptor, you’ve probably reached a limit with your leaf-sprung rear suspension at the pace you’re chasing. Even if you’ve have upgraded to the large bypass shock setup with a set of Deaver leaf springs, the leaf spring suspension system in the rear of the Gen 1 Raptor has plenty of performance limitations. Based on those limitations, we decided it was time to offer the Raptor community a relatively simple, relatively easy to install solution to their problem based on the popularity of the Gen 3 Raptor 5-link rear suspension system.

The 5 Link Conversion kit was designed with 3 main factors in mind; imitate the Gen 3 Raptor suspension the best we can, keep the factory fuel tank, and make it as smooth and stable as possible, no matter the terrain. Utilizing our RST18 bypass rack, we are using 3.0 x 16″ Internal Bypass coilovers with dual-rate coil springs to allow you to really dial in the spring rates for your specific bed weight and driving style, and internally you will experience the internal bypass with zone specific damping and comfortable bottom-out control. Paired with a set of 2.5 bump stops mounted into our patented Frame Support kit, you’ve got yourself the ultimate confidence-instilling 5-link rear suspension system. Of course, we recommend professional shock tuning to optimize the performance of the kit to your requirements.

Mounting the links to the frame is a combination of the factory leaf spring hanger and a custom lower link mount welded to the frame. Fortunately, that mounting position of the Upper Link pivot gave us our desired suspension geometry, keeping in mind both off-road use and daily driving. Even without proper spring rates or valving adjustments, this kit will feel night-and-day better over a fully upgraded leaf-sprung system.

Moving to the axle mounts for the links, there are two different ways to go. You will either reuse your factory axle housing and install all new link mounts onto the housing, or you may purchase an OEM Gen 3 Raptor rear axle housing from Ford. This gives you pre-installed link mounts, and you would only need to relocate the Lower Link mounts using the provided parts. No need to worry about getting everything correct, as it’s already done for you and ready to go. Do note; switching to the Gen 3 rear axle housing will require you to switch to a Gen 3 OEM rear brake setup.
